MAM Mario Mauroner Contemporary Art

Mario Mauroner Contemporary Art SALZBURG (formerly Galerie Academia) was founded in 1972 by Waltraud and Mario Mauroner in the old residence of the prince archbishop in the heart of the Altstadt of Salzburg. While the atmospheric vaulted rooms (140 m2) lend the exhibitions an unmistakable, intimate character, the basement from the 16th century, the oldest part of the Bischofspalazzo in terms of architectural history, offers space for interventions by young artists.
Since 1990, the original Academia Gallery in the Residenz has been complemented by the stylish 360 m², two-storey extension of the Mario and Waltraud Mauroner Galeriehaus, located directly on the banks of the Salzach river, which has been adapted to the Bauhausambiente. Spacious rooms, flooded with daylight, open up exhibition possibilities here that have not previously been possible in the Residenz due to the spatial concept. Strict yet sensitive architecture brings nature into the exhibition and opens up charming views into small, secluded patios, which, like the garden, are used for sculpture projects.
