Delightful Baroque - Themed tour in the DomQuartier.

During the tour, visitors will not only enjoy art and spiritual nourishment, but also snacks and drinks.

Looking back at the times when the archbishops still resided in Salzburg is interesting not only from an architectural, but also from a culinary point of view. In the DomQuartier, with its fascinating Baroque structures and collections, you fill find numerous art pieces that prove this.

The clerics enjoyed the finest foods at resounding banquets. Even fasting periods with their strict rules had their culinary delights too.
Food played a huge role in the fine arts, whether in baroque still-life or in the representations of festivals and celebrations at the archbishop's court.

What was served at the time might come across as being of an acquired tasted to modern ears… Steamed haunch of veal, Turkish chicken with crayfish, songbird, squirrel and much more. They also already knew about exotic fruits such as kiwi and pineapple. The food was accompanied by wine and lactofermented beer. The common people made do with stew, bread and vegetables.
