SALZBURG MUSEUM NEW RESIDENCE
Salzburg's Art and Cultural History
Since moving to the New Residence in 2007, the Salzburg Museum, founded in 1834, has been located in the centre of Salzburg's old town. Here you can get comprehensive information about the city and province of Salzburg and gain special insights into and views of a unique cultural landscape. As the oldest and most comprehensive collection institution on the art and cultural history of Salzburg, the Salzburg Museum provides vivid impressions of the imperial city, which was shaped by the archbishops, in its historical staterooms. The Salzburg Museum regularly exchanges ideas with international museums, among others, on an innovative and varied programme of special exhibitions. In a special way, it works with the collections and opens up an exciting dialogue between regional traditions, international contexts and contemporary perspectives.
Museum for everyone
The art education programme of the Salzburg Museum makes it its task to enable people of all ages - regardless of origin and educational level - to have a stimulating and exciting encounter with the museum objects and the history of the city of Salzburg. Especially for young visitors, the educational program aims to sensitize them to social and cultural-historical questions and to arouse their curiosity. Further information on the programme can be found at www.salzburgmuseum.at
Guided tours at reduced prices through the Neue Residenz take place every Thursday at 6 pm.
