By bus and bicycle to the Altstadt Salzburg
The environmentally friendly way.

The most convenient way to the Altstadt

Stress-free. Environmentally friendly. Comfortable.

Why does it always have to be the car? We often become too used to our own vehicles, accepting their many disadvantages alongside the supposed advantages. The waiting times at red lights, the annoyance at other drivers and the high volume of traffic during rush hours. Everything could be so relaxed, because the Altstadt is perfectly accessible by public transport. A trip to the Altstadt of Salzburg by bicycle is even more enjoyable - and on top of that, it's a great way to get fit.

Shopping Bus-Ticket

Added value when shopping in the Altstadt.

In around 100 participating businesses, you’ll receive a Shopping Bus-Ticket, with which you can return home free of charge. (The campaign may be subject to a minimum purchase value and applies to the central area of Salzburg). Look for the Shopping Bus-Ticket sticker at the shops or ask for the bus ticket at the ticket office.

Riding the bus is tedious! Isn’t it?

An honest look at traveling by bus.

We Austrians are commonly known as “Suderers”. “Sudern” means to complain or nag. At least we're not alone because when it comes to riding the bus, many people climb aboard and complain till the cows come home. It doesn't matter where you come from, whether you live in Salzburg or you're just visiting. But what is traveling by bus really all about? Let’s do a fact check.

In reality, although some buses drive in the same lane as cars, there are special bus lanes at critical points. Also, many bus traffic lights switch to green while car traffic has to wait.

Have a look at the prices for the trolleybus for an adult person in the center of Salzburg:

Single trip: € 2.90 when purchased directly in the bus
If you buy your ticket at a tobacconist's or at the traffic ServiceCenters (Alpenstrasse, MönchsbergAufzug, Salzburg local train station) before you start your journey, the ticket costs only € 1.90 per trip (issued in a set of 5). Alternatively, you can purchase hourly tickets for € 2.00 at the automatic ticket machine or via the qando Salzburg app before you start your trip.

It's true, sometimes the buses are actually late. There are various reasons for this. The dense traffic in the city, barriers at events or weather conditions are just a few. With various public transport apps, you can conveniently check the current arrival time of your bus at any time. Quick and easy. If it takes a little longer, the Altstadt offers every imaginable possibility to bridge the brief waiting time.

Download one of the apps now and keep informed about the current departure time!

Why? We hear this supposed argument often, but haven’t really understood it. That is because most of the time there are, of course, a few exceptions. However, what people often mean is that it is not possible to travel home by bus with multiple shopping bags. According to them, it's too tedious to carry the cherished trophies from your shopping spree to the bus and then home from the bus stop and to the front door. It’s understandable, but it doesn’t have to be...

1. The way to the car

Shopping bags also have to be carried into the parking garage. This way is usually longer than the way to the bus stop. If the bus stop in your neighborhood is far away from home, this might be an argument. Admittedly. But is the bus stop really that far away? Not in most cases.

Just take the bus home and have your shopping delivered to you. How does it work? It's simple, environmentally friendly, and affordable. For example, you can have up to 10 kg delivered to your home by bicycle courier starting at € 6.60 within the city area.

In most cases, you have to admit to yourself: “It's just as easy by bus as by car!” For all the other cases there's the most convenient solution of all - the environmentally friendly delivery service! We can suggest from our experience: “Just give it a try and surprise yourself.”
