Salzburg Easter Festival
The Salzburg Easter Festival was founded in 1967 by Herbert von Karajan and offers every year a top-class programme of opera, orchestra and choir concerts (in two packages) as well as additional events (chamber opera, chamber concerts, concert for Salzburg, children's concerts). Every year, audiences from all over the world come to Salzburg for Easter, and at the same time the festival is attractive for visitors from the region. Since 2013 Christian Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden have formed the artistic fundament of the festival.
The opera programme usually includes a highly romantic and a late romantic work in a new production at the main venue, the Great Festival Hall (in recent years Tosca, Die Walküre, Otello and Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci). The concerts offer a broad programmatic spectrum, from Baroque to world premieres.
Members of the Fördererverein are given preferential treatment when subscriptions are ordered; these membership fees, ticket income and sponsoring are used to finance the Easter Festival mainly by themselves (approx. 90%). From December 1st, everyone can purchase remaining tickets from the subscription for the upcoming Easter Festival. All other events, such as the Salzburg Concert with explicitly low prices and the Chamber Concert, are generally available in open sale.
