Robert Landfermann

Robert Landfermann: double bass | There are not many sidemen bassists who are able to manage a complete solo programme yet Robert Landfermann, one of Germany’s top bassists, is one even though he may not have done this often. He has frequently been a guest with various formations and combinations at “Jazz & The City” where he has also already played in the Kollegienkirche where he heard many of his fellow colleagues. The acoustic of the baroque building built by Fischer von Erlach fascinated him from the start and he therefore did all he could to return to play solo in this special acoustic space and to also record the performance.

Artist biography Robert Landfermann

41-year-old contrabassist Robert Landfermann from Bonn already joined the trio of pianist Pablo Held as a student in 2006 together with like-minded drummer Joans Burgwinkel. A piano trio which soon became not only the “flagship” of the “Cologne school” of creative jazz but which has also become an integral part of the German jazz scene which stands out in a way matched only by the likes of the Michael Wollny Trio. For Landfermann – who also had his own concert series “Nicht ohne Robert” (Not without Robert) in Cologne’s Loft for a long time – this is only the starting point for performances in more than 50 countries with countless national and international stars from Matthias Schriefl to John Scofield. A winner of all notable German jazz prizes, Landfermann has recently increasingly worked with all-star line-ups.
