Mariá Portugal
Despite her still young years, drummer and singer Mariá Portugal who has a university degree not only in composition but also communications and semiotics, is already able to look back on 20 very active years as a musician. Her work in her home country Brazil has included collaborations with artists such as Arrigo Barnabé, Elza Soares, Maria Beraldo as well as her own instrumental project Quartabê. Since 2020 she has also been performing in Europe where she now has a second home in Germany. Here she has been playing not only with the big names such as Angelika Niescier, Gerald Cleaver, Joëlle Leandre, Billy Martin, Fred Frith and Jasper van't Hof, but is also increasingly working as a curator and composer for dance, theatre, and film – the film “1976”, for which Portugal wrote the soundtrack, has just premiered in Cannes.
Location
artHotel Blaue Gans
The art of good taste (since 1350!) can be found behind the historical wall of the 'artHotel Blaue Gans' in Getreidegasse alley. With modern design, contemporary art, sophisticated architectural solutions and a lot of finesse, owner Andreas Gfrerer has confidently transported the lodgings, which are over 660 years old, into the present day. Visiting the hotel, the restaurant in the dome, and the Brasserie Bar in the Blauen Gans, is simply a part of the desired experience for enthusiasts, sophisticated globe-trotters, art lovers and friends of good taste.
Traditionally, jazz concerts take place in the century-old walls of the wine archive, whereby a link is made to its original usage as a jazz cellar ("Mexicano-Keller"). For years, this location has been infamous for select solo and duo formats, so be sure to get there on time if you'd like to get a seat.
